Social change is alteration in the structure, culture or functioning of society over time, from a new marriage practice in one village to the global spread of smartphones. It is rarely sudden or total: old and new coexist, and the same change can liberate one group while burdening another. Take online schooling during a crisis: it expanded access for connected urban students, yet deepened exclusion for children without devices, showing change, inequality and agency together.
