Verbal learning studies how people memorise lists of words and pairs, while discrimination learning studies how they tell similar stimuli apart. For example, learning that the French word chien means dog is paired-associate learning, and learning to press a key only for a red light is discrimination learning. This chapter also notes the neurophysiology of learning.
