Computer-based testing delivers items on screen, scores many of them instantly, and can adapt the next item to the candidate's performance so far. For example, a candidate who answers correctly may next receive a harder item, while one who struggles receives an easier one, so fewer items are needed for a precise estimate. This chapter covers computer-based and adaptive testing and the settings where psychological testing is applied: clinical, organisational, educational, counselling, military and career guidance.
