Experimental design is how psychologists earn the right to say caused: ANOVA separates group differences from noise, factorial designs reveal interactions, and repeated measures, Latin squares and single-subject designs each solve a different practical problem. For example, a factorial design can show that a study technique helps anxious students but harms confident ones — a pattern no single-factor study could see. This chapter covers the designs in the syllabus.
