Indian political thought runs from Dharamshastra and Kautilya through medieval, Bhakti and reformist voices to the nationalist and post-independence thinkers who shaped modern India. Its core question is how order, justice and freedom can be rooted in Indian experience rather than imported wholesale. A classic exam example is contrasting Kautilya's statecraft with Gandhi's trusteeship: both address power, but one centres raison d'etat and the other moral self-restraint.
