Liberal theories of justice disagree about what fairness requires once people already own, earn and inherit unequally. Rawls asks what principles would be chosen behind a veil of ignorance, Nozick answers that justice is about how holdings arose, Dworkin demands equality of resources, and Sen asks whether people can actually live the lives they value. For example, a tax that looks unfair to Nozick may look required to Rawls if it improves the position of the worst off.
