Phenomenology returns to experience itself, and existentialism asks what it means to exist as a free, finite being. Husserl brackets the natural attitude, Heidegger analyses Dasein, Kierkegaard makes subjectivity truth, and Sartre declares us condemned to be free. For example, Sartre would say that a waiter who over-acts his role is in bad faith, pretending his job defines him so he need not choose.
