Nyaya and Vaisesika

Nyaya is India's science of reasoning, with four pramanas and a sharp theory of fallacies, while Vaisesika maps reality into categories headed by substance and quality. For example, inferring fire from smoke is valid only when the hetu is free of hetvabhasa. This chapter pairs Nyaya logic with Vaisesika metaphysics, as the tradition itself does.
