Purva-Mimamsa and Vedanta

Mimamsa defends the eternal word and the authority of duty, while Vedanta debates the relation between self and Brahman in four great systems. For example, Kumarila and Prabhakara disagree on whether knowledge is self-validating in a way that reshapes their whole theory of error. This chapter contrasts svatah and paratah pramanya with Advaita, Vishishtadvaita, Dvaita, Dvaitadvaita and Shuddhadvaita.
