Indian higher education is one of the world's largest systems, and its structure is best learned by type. A university's type decides who establishes it, who funds it, and what it may do — and exam questions test exactly those three things.
Worked example: A central university is established by an Act of Parliament and receives maintenance grants mainly from the University Grants Commission. A state university is established by an Act of a state legislature. A deemed university is an institution conferred deemed-to-be-university status, and a private university is established by an Act of a state legislature but promoted by a private body. Same word "university", four different legal routes — and the question almost always asks which route.
