A group is two or more people who interact, depend on each other and share a goal; a team is a group whose members hold themselves mutually accountable for a common purpose. Groups pass through stages — forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning — and each stage needs different leadership. Worked example: a newly formed project team first behaves politely (forming), then argues over roles (storming); a manager who punishes the arguing misses the point — storming is normal and necessary before norms settle and real performance begins. Skipping storming usually means the conflict went underground, not away.
