Guidance helps a person make wise choices; counselling helps a person resolve a difficulty. Guidance is broader and preventive — a class talk on careers, a pamphlet on study habits. Counselling is deeper and personal — a one-to-one conversation where a troubled student finds their own solution. Worked example: telling a whole class about subject choices for Class 11 is guidance; sitting with one anxious student who cannot choose, and helping them weigh their interests and strengths, is counselling.
