International business is business conducted across national borders: exporting goods, licensing technology, building a factory abroad or selling services to foreign customers. Globalisation — the growing integration of national economies through trade, investment and technology — is what makes it possible and necessary. Worked example: a firm that only sells at home competes with every foreign firm that exports into its market, so even a purely domestic firm lives inside international business.
